Iran film ‘Kupal’ directed by Kazem Mollaei has won the best film award at the Around International Film Festival Amsterdam held in the Netherlands.
The Iranian film was chosen as the best film at the festival’s last month edition which hosted films from different countries around the world.
‘Kupal’ narrates the story of Dr. Ahmad Kupal, who is a taxidermist hunter, as he faces a challenge just before the New Year.
“You cannot be alone in the world,” Mollai noted, giving a clue to the philosophical origin of the film, adding “The world is a strange place. Here, whoever shoots is the one who gets killed.”
Notable cast members of the film include Levon Haftvan, Nazanin Farahani, Pouria Rahimi-Sam, Hossein Shamsabadi, Vahan Salimzadeh and Mitra Asiaee.
Mollaei’s feature film debut also attended the competitive section of Fajr Film Festival in February.
Around International Film Festival Amsterdam is an annual and monthly independent event with a live screening for all feature, shorts, documentary, experimental, commercial, music video, animations, student films, series, TV and new media.
Every month, the international community awards the best creations submitted to ARFF Amsterdam Official Laurel.
